. . . This Year Marks the 32nd Consecutive Year of the Fun, Free Concert Series in Naples
NAPLES, FL (April 2017) – A popular Southwest Florida tradition continues, as The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club will host its annual “SummerJazz on the Gulf” concert series for the 32nd consecutive year. The fun, free concert series combines a diverse array of Jazz entertainment with truly beautiful views of the Gulf, stunning sunsets, refreshing breezes, and a relaxing atmosphere. Each concert is held on the AAA Four-Diamond resort’s picturesque Watkins Lawn overlooking the Gulf. “SummerJazz on the Gulf” will take place one Saturday evening per month June-September, and each concert will be from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. This year’s concerts will be on Saturday, June 17; Saturday, July 8; Saturday, August 19; and Saturday, September 16, 2017.
According to Susan Savino, Director of Conference Services at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club and organizer of the annual concert series, the 2017 “SummerJazz on the Gulf” line-up is:

⦁ Gloria West and the Gents – Saturday, August 19, 2017
⦁ Late Night Brass – Saturday, September 16, 2017.
“We are very pleased to bring back three of our most popular SummerJazz bands this year, as well as feature the very talented Gloria West and her gifted band as a new addition to our line-up,” said Savino. “The Betty Fox Band is a great way to kick-off this year’s SummerJazz, as Betty and her band always do a terrific job and are such a crowd favorite. This promises to be a terrific concert series.”
Hotel guests will receive complimentary parking at the resort. For those not staying at the resort there will be parking just north of the hotel at Lowdermilk Park, with free parking provided to those with a Naples beach sticker, and free trolley service to the resort and back. The Betty Fox Band will kick-off this year’s “SummerJazz on the Gulf” concert series on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Known for its blues and funk-infused soul, the band is led by talented songstress Betty Fox. The band was an International Blues Challenge finalist (in the top 8 of 150 bands), and is a two-time winner of Creative Loafing’s “Best of the Bay” as Tampa/St. Petersburg’s “Best Local Blues Act” in a reader’s poll. The band has opened for such artists as Mavis Staples, Ronnie Earl, Lucky Peterson, Jimmy Thackery, The Meter Men, and Damon Fowler. This will mark their fifth appearance at SummerJazz on the Gulf. Pocket Change will perform at SummerJazz on Saturday, July 8, 2017. The talented 6-piece, high-energy show band performs Motown, Funk, R&B Variety, Soul, and Dance/Party music. Known for their beautiful vocals and harmonies, and for their showmanship, Pocket Change is led by Bandleader Eddie “The Thrill” Carmichael and Music Director Otis “Maestro” McCarthy. The band has opened for Sean Paul, Journey, Blue Oyster Cult, Paul Revere and The Raiders, Cheap Trick, and Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. They have performed at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, Universal Studios Florida, Seminole Casino, Walt Disney World®, and House of Blues (in Orlando and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina). Gloria West and the Gents will perform at SummerJazz for the first time, on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Specializing in old school stride-swing jazz with a twist, the band is led by Gloria West, who has a truly beautiful voice that has been compared to Billie Holiday and Norah Jones, as well as a unique style and a magnetic stage presence. She will be accompanied by “The Gents,” a very talented and fun four-piece horn band that really gets the crowd dancing. This season’s final SummerJazz concert on Saturday, September 16, 2017, will feature the very popular and versatile 10-piece band Late Night Brass. Returning to SummerJazz for the ninth consecutive year, this high-energy band features a powerful four-piece horn section (saxophone, two trumpets, and trombone), a driving four-piece rhythm section (keyboard, guitar, bass, and drums), a dynamic male vocalist, and a very talented female vocalist. They will perform a range of songs from such popular horn bands as Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang, KC & The Sunshine Band, and Blood Sweat & Tears. The band also plays songs from such groups as Huey Lewis & The News, The Blues Brothers, and Doobie Brothers.
