"SummerJazz On The Gulf" Concert Series

This will mark the 23rd consecutive year of the fun, free concert series on the scenic Watkins Lawn overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Concerts times are from 7 – 10 PM. Food and beverage offerings are available throughout each concert. Coolers are not permitted.

Skilled as a soloist, a sideman performer with well-known national acts, and as leader of his namesake band, saxophonist Mike MacArthur performs a rich diversity of jazz, nu-jazz and funk tunes. He has toured with Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau Band, and has worked with such artists as Jeff Kashiwa, Mary Wilson & The Supremes, and Roger Waters (of Pink Floyd). His inspiration ranges from the be-bop sounds of Charlie Parker to the modern sounds of Michael Brecker. The versatile six-piece group Lounge Cat will entertain at the July 19, 2008 SummerJazz concert. Known for its festive shows, the band plays a fun mixture of Swing, Jazz, Old School Blues, Ska, Motown, and even some Latin numbers. Its velvety, swinging style is sure to get the audience dancing. Always a crowd favorite, Women’s Blues Revue returns to “SummerJazz on the Gulf” for their tenth performance. Known in the Florida Jazz scene for many years, the band is made up of eight of Florida’s best female blues, R&B, rock and jazz musicians. All of the women are working musicians who have regular gigs with other bands, but come together a few times a year for special shows like “SummerJazz on the Gulf.” Headlining the group on lead vocals and guitar is Patty Sanphy. The band keeps the crowd energized with their play of jump blues, funky R & B, and classic soul songs. Women’s Blues Revue will entertain on Saturday, August 23, 2008. The final SummerJazz concert in 2008 will be headlined by the Stacey Knights Group. Led by the very talented vocalist/songwriter/saxophonist/flutist Stacey Knights, the band performs a rich blend of tunes with Adult Contemporary and Pop/Jazz influences. The band’s high-energy show can be described as both mesmerizing and exciting.
