"SummerJazz on the Gulf" 2014 Concert Dates and Entertainment Announced

NAPLES, FL (March 2014) – A popular Southwest Florida tradition continues, as The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club will again host its annual “SummerJazz on the Gulf” concert series. This will mark the 29th consecutive year of the fun, free concert series, which combines an appealing and diverse selection of Jazz entertainment with beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico, stunning sunsets, cool breezes, and a relaxing atmosphere. Each concert is held on the resort’s scenic Watkins Lawn overlooking the Gulf. “SummerJazz on the Gulf” will take place one Saturday evening per month June-September, and each concert will be from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. This year’s concerts will be on Saturday, June 28; Saturday, July 26; Saturday, August 16; and Saturday, September 13, 2014.
According to Susan Savino, Director of Conference Services at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club and organizer of the concert series, the 2014 “SummerJazz on the Gulf” line-up is:

  • The Betty Fox Band  – Saturday, June 28, 2014
  • Late Night Brass – Saturday, July 26, 2014
  • Pocket Change – Saturday, August 16, 2014
  • The Mud Flappers Band – Saturday, September 13, 2014.

“We are very pleased to bring back three of our most popular SummerJazz bands this year,” said Savino. “The Betty Fox Band performed for the first time at our September concert last year, and was a real crowd-pleaser. They will be a great band to kick-off this year’s concert series. The always-popular Late Night Brass returns to SummerJazz for the sixth consecutive year. Pocket Change performed at SummerJazz in 2011, and we’re very happy they are back. This year we are also proud to feature an act that is new to SummerJazz, The Mud Flappers Band, who audiences will just love. It promises to be a great concert series.”

Each concert will be held from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. on the Watkins Lawn. Hotel guests will receive complimentary parking at the resort. For those not staying at the resort there will be parking just north of the hotel at Lowdermilk Park, with free parking provided to those with a Naples beach sticker, and free trolley service to the resort and back. The Betty Fox Band will kick-off this year’s “SummerJazz on the Gulf” concert series on Saturday, June 28, 2014. Known for its blues and funk-infused soul, the band is led by fiery songstress Betty Fox, and also features musical heavyweights Matt Walker on guitar, Barry Williams on bass, and Sam Farmer on drums. The band was voted “Best of the Bay” as Tampa/St. Petersburg’s “Best Local Blues Act” in a reader’s poll by Creative Loafing. The band has opened for such artists as Mavis Staples, Damon Fowler, and Roosevelt Collier of The Lee Boys. This will mark their second appearance at SummerJazz on the Gulf. The very popular and versatile 11-piece band Late Night Brass will headline the SummerJazz concert on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Returning to SummerJazz for the sixth consecutive year, this high-energy band features a powerful four-piece horn section (saxophone, two trumpets, and trombone), a driving five-piece rhythm section (keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, and Latin percussion), a dynamic male vocalist, and a very talented female vocalist. They will perform a range of songs from such popular horn bands as Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang, KC & The Sunshine Band, Blood Sweat & Tears, and Tower of Power. The band also plays songs from such groups as Huey Lewis & The News, The Blues Brothers, Commodores, and Doobie Brothers. The band has opened up for Chicago, Chris Botti, Huey Lewis & The News, Billy Joel & Elton John, Michael Bublé, Earth Wind & Fire, and Sting & The Police. Pocket Change will perform on Saturday, August 16, 2014. The talented 6-piece, high-energy show band performs Motown, Funk, R&B Variety, Soul, and Dance/Party music. Known for their beautiful vocals and harmonies, and for their showmanship, Pocket Change is led by Bandleader Eddie “The Thrill” Carmichael and Music Director Otis “Maestro” McCarthy. The band has performed at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, Universal Studios Florida, Seminole Casino, Walt Disney World®, Daytona Bandshell, and Florida A&M University. This season’s final SummerJazz concert on Saturday, September 13, 2014, will feature The Mud Flappers Band. Performing for the first time at SummerJazz, the band was voted “Orlando’s Best Folk Act” of 2011, 2012, and 2013 by the readers of Orlando Weekly. Known for their eclectic sound and energetic acoustic style, which could be described as Gypsy Jazz/Folky Swing, the 7-piece “mini orchestra” features talented vocalists Lauren Carder and Sarah Elizabeth Patrick.
