The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill in Naples Conducting a "Big Kahuna Promotion"

NAPLES, FL (September 2012) – In honor of the original “Big Kahuna” Terry Tracy, who was a fun-loving surfer who inspired the “Gidget” movies and who recently passed away at the age of 77, The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club is offering a “Big Kahuna Special” through November 20, 2012. The special consists of one 20-ounce draft beer for 77 cents with the purchase of a Big Kahuna Burger at the recently renovated and expanded Sunset Beach Bar & Grill, which now features an open-air grill (with an expanded menu), a larger bar area, new décor with comfortable new furniture, and an expanded patio area.

The restaurant’s impressive 20.5-ounce The Big Kahuna Burger features two grilled seasoned half-pound Angus patties slathered in smoky barbecue sauce, topped with sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions, served on a roll with lettuce, tomato and fries. Draft beer options include Bud Light, Blue Moon, Landshark, Sam Adams, Stella Artois, and Yuengling. You must be 21 years of age or older to qualify. The offer is not valid with any other discounts or offers.

Credited with helping to make surfing an international sport, Tracy personified the alternative lifestyle of the cool sunglass-wearing surfer. His “beach bum” lifestyle led to a book, Gidget: The Little Girl With Big Ideas, by screenwriter Frederick Kohner, whose daughter met Tracy on the beach and was nicknamed “Gidget” by him. That book led to other books, and to the 1959 movie “Gidget” (where Tracy was portrayed by actor Cliff Robertson), and then to the mid-1960s television series.

The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill is consistently recognized as one of the “Best Places to Catch a Sunset in Southwest Florida,” and was named “Naples’ Best Beach Bar” by the Travel Channel. In addition to offering a large drink menu (including many delicious specialty drinks) and The Big Kahuna Burger, The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill offers such menu items as Classic Maine Lobster Roll, Chicken Margherita Sandwich, Steak Sandwich, The Beach Club, Grouper Sandwich, Shrimp Tortuga, Crab Cakes, and Portobello Burger.

“We thought this was a nice way to celebrate the life of the Big Kahuna, Terry Tracy, who was known for his easy-going attitude and fun-loving personality, which ties-in well with The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill,” said Jim Anderson, Food & Beverage Director at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club.
